Sunshine Through the Snow - Sogetsu and Ikenobo Demonstrations
Time & Location
Dec 05, 2023, 11:00 AM – 1:40 PM
New York, 49 W 45th St 5th floor, New York, NY 10036, USA
About the event
Join us for a breathtaking journey where light meets winter, interpreted through the art of Ikebana. Neal Earhart of the Sogetsu school and Miao Wang of the Ikenobo school will each illuminate the theme 'Sunshine Through the Snow' in their unique styles. Witness the fusion of delicate blooms and icy inspirations as each demonstrator crafts two exquisite arrangements.
Experience the magic when tradition and creativity converge, revealing the warmth and beauty that pierces the cold.
In these challenging times of international tension, we hope our program serves as a beacon of inspiration, comfort, and strength, whispering a gentle prayer for global peace. Embracing International Ikebana's motto, "Friendship through flowers," we eagerly await your presence this holiday season. Don't miss this radiant showcase – where nature, art, and hope intertwine.
Ginza Bazaar & Lunch Start from 12:15
What is Ginza Bazaar? Named for the famous shopping district in Tokyo, we fundraise with your donated ikebana containers and accessories. For the "white elephant table" we welcome Japanese items such as containers, or jewlery, and other fun items suitable for your holiday shopping.
Bring your donation to the event by 10:30 am. Contact Ways and Means Committee chair, Shizue Pleasanton rogeropt@optonline. net for questions.
At the event, the renowned potter, Ms. Keiko Ashida, will be showcasing and selling her original, one-of-a-kind ikebana containers.
In addition, Ms. Kyoko Ohnishi will present unique designs crafted from antique kimonos, which have been thoughtfully recycled into handbags, pochettes, and other accessory items.
Furthermore, Obi-Obi Japan Company will be offering an exquisite range of home decor, cushions, and more, all fashioned from traditional Japanese Obi.
Please bring checks or cash for Ginza Bazaar purchases!
