Garden tour and after-lunch talk on the Jay family and their connections with Japan.

The property was home to Founding Father and First Chief Justice John Jay and four generations of Jay family descendants. The “Japan connections” are interesting.

Grandson John C. Jay catalogued seashells brought from Japan

by friend and neighbor Commodore Matthew Perry.

Mary Rutherfurd Jay, early 20th century landscape architect,

was influenced by Japanese gardens.
